Willie’s New York Swing Music Program

Willie’s New York Swing is dedicated to preserving, teaching, and advancing the rich traditions of Latin music in New York City, while also embracing swing and supporting jazz vocalists as an essential part of this musical ecosystem.

Founded by Willie Ruiz, a musician with over 48 years of experience, the program is rooted in a deep sense of responsibility to pass on the knowledge, discipline, and artistry he received from his own mentors. 

Just as earlier generations of master musicians shaped Willie’s growth through guidance, performance, and example, Willie’s New York Swing exists to offer the same opportunity to younger generations.

At a time when fewer live venues and mentorship pathways are available to emerging artists, the program creates a space where musicians learn not only how to play, but how to swing, listen, and communicate through music. Through authentic instruction, mentorship, and shared experience,
